Presentation:
The commemoration of the 250th anniversary of Hegel’s birth is a suitable occasion to discuss the innovative interpretation that the German thinker gave to the sense, task, and systematic construction of philosophy. In particular, the congress will address the relationship between philosophy and other figures of human knowledge, especially those that have claims of scientificity. It is known that Hegel himself held that philosophy should stop being merely “love of wisdom” to become “effective knowledge” or “science.” Based on a dialectical understanding of the categories of thought and the method of particular sciences, the totality of knowledge should be developed in a “circle of circles,” focused on philosophy and philosophical sciences but also open to dialogue with other sciences.
The III German-Latin American Congress on Hegel’s Philosophy aims to take stock and discuss the current relevance of this theoretical enterprise. In many areas of philosophical discussion but also in contemporary epistemological debates of various sciences, the echo of the great intuitions of Hegel’s philosophy is felt, whether in the consciousness of the historicity of thinking or in the social and communal dimension of rationality, both in our conception of the history of art or philosophy, as in the questioning of the principles of modernity or the foundations of a postmodern era.
The Congress is an initiative of the German-Latin American Network for Research and PhD in Philosophy (FILORED). The international philosophical community is invited to participate in the Congress and to submit proposals for communications in any of the three official languages of the Congress: German, Spanish, and Portuguese. Exceptionally, papers in English, French or Italian will also be accepted.
